Continuing the route, you’ll head towards the imposing Archbishop’s Palace of Lima, whose current neocolonial façade was inaugurated in 1924. You’ll admire its impressive carved wooden balconies, considered among the most beautiful in the historic centre. This building is the official residence of the Archbishop of Lima and represents the religious influence on the political and cultural life of the city since the very first years of the colony.

Just a short walk away stands the traditional Hotel Maury, famous for its connection with the Pisco Sour, which has become Peru’s national cocktail. From there, the path continues to the Municipal Palace of Lima, the seat of the Metropolitan Municipality since colonial times. Its architecture reflects the neocolonial style that dominates much of the historic centre, and from here the city’s affairs are managed.

This tour also includes a visit to the Church of La Merced, originally built in the 16th century and reconstructed several times after earthquakes. Its baroque façade stands out with finely carved stone details. It was here that the first official mass was celebrated after the city’s foundation in 1535, making it a place of great historical and religious importance.

At the Plaza de Armas of Lima, the historic heart of the city, you’ll feel the grandeur of the very place where Francisco Pizarro founded Lima in 1535. Here you’ll admire the elegant Cathedral of Lima, whose construction began that same year and which today remains the country’s main Catholic temple. On this same square, you’ll find the Government Palace of Peru, also known as the House of Pizarro. This building has been the seat of the executive branch since colonial times and continues to be the official residence of the President. The route then takes you to the House of Peruvian Literature, located in what was once the Desamparados railway station, inaugurated in 1912. Here you’ll discover how this space was transformed into a cultural centre paying tribute to Peruvian writers of all eras. It’s a place where the history of railway transport meets the literary richness of the nation.

To finish with a sweet touch, you’ll step into the ChocoMuseo, where you’ll discover the value of Peruvian cacao, considered among the finest in the world. You’ll learn how cacao has been cultivated in these lands for thousands of years and how today Peru is recognised internationally for the quality of its chocolate. Plus, you’ll have the chance to taste different products made from this ancestral bean.
