Free Walking Tour of Lima
Description
Description
Ancient, viceroyal, cosmopolitan Lima. A city that gazes out to the sea. A metropolis nestled in the coastal desert. A vibrant urban centre that remembers its pre-Hispanic past, its colonial heritage, and its republican heartbeat. A monumental, picturesque, and flavourful destination waiting to be discovered on our Free Walking Tour of Lima.
Join us in the Historic Centre of the City of Kings, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991. Come along as we explore its evocative squares and streets of the Peruvian capital, founded on 18th January 1535 by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro.
Stroll with us through the old city, listening to stories from your local guide, while admiring the magnificent architecture of its colonial churches and convents in a city that still holds on to its Catholic faith.
Lima is known as the city of balconies. There are so many that they seem to “form streets in the air,” as the famous priest Antonio de Calancha noted in 1639. And there they still stand, discreet witnesses to the unfolding of Lima’s history with viceroys, masked women, and street vendors; the Lima of bohemia, criollismo, festivity, and also of power, as it is home to the Presidential Palace.
